[March 20, 2008]  (AP)  A strong storm was expected to continue moving through the Mid-Atlantic and along New England's coast before pressing into the Canadian Maritimes on Thursday.

As the storm moves off the coast, snow in the Appalachians was expected to diminish, as was significant rain along the Southeast coast.

Farther north, eastern New England was forecast to get heavy rain, with snow in the western portion. Breezy conditions were to linger in New England and the Mid-Atlantic.

In the West, rain and high-elevation snow was expected from the Northwest through the Intermountain West. Rain was also possible in the Great Basin.

The Northeast was forecast to rise into the 30s and 40s, while the Southeast was to see temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The southern Plains were expected to rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Northwest was to see temperatures in the 40s and 50s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of zero at Gunnison, Colo., to a high of 89 degrees at Yuma, Ariz.
