Mr. Upton died Jan. 30, 2008, at 12:45 p.m. at
Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. His
graveside service was Feb. 12, 2008, at Grandview
Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Champaign.
Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta handled
final arrangements.
Mr. Upton worked with department store displays
in many stores throughout the Midwest.
He served in the U.S. Army for three years during
World War II.
He was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Waynesville to
Orville E. and Marie Waldron Upton. He married Hazel
Zimmerman. She preceded him in death on Aug. 16,
1994.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers preceded him in death.
He graduated from Atlanta High School in 1938.
Following high school, he studied architectural
drafting and radio operations. He then spent two
years working for the Illinois Central Railroad
before being drafted into military service.
In his retirement years, he took up painting and
was well-known in the Mahomet area for his artistry.
He and many of his family members were artists in
central Illinois.
