Showers and thunderstorms were expected in the Rockies and Plains, and several inches of snow should fall from central Colorado through the western Dakotas. Significant rain was expected farther east in the Dakotas and Montana.
A stiff wind was to blow through the Southwest and Southern Plains.
Moderate to heavy rain was to fall from Minnesota through New England and southward through the Ohio Valley.
High temperatures were expected to be in the 50s and 60s in the Northeast, 70s and 80s in the Southeast, 80s and 90s in the Southern Plains, and 30s and 40s in the Rockies.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 14 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 100 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
