The official says most of the victims were filing out of the Bin Salman mosque after Friday prayers in the city of Saada. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to media.
Saada lies about 124 miles north of Yemen's capital, San'a. Thousands of people have been killed in the area since a Shiite Muslim rebellion erupted in June 2004.
