There was a slight chance of severe weather through the Lower Mississippi Valley.
Out West, rain and high elevation snow were expected in the Rockies. Heavy rain and thunderstorms were anticipated overnight Thursday into Friday.
Cool air was expected in the Northwest, with showers possible in Washington in the afternoon and evening.
Temperatures were to rise into the 60s and 70s in the Northeast, the 80s and 90s in the Southeast, Southwest and Southern Plains, the 50s and 60s in the Northern Plains; and the 60s in the Northwest.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 22 degrees at Bellemont, Ariz., to a high of 104 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
