[May 19, 2008]  (AP)  Rainy, cold weather was forecast Monday for the Northeast, with the heaviest rainfall projected for northern Maine.

A southbound cold front was expected to bring wet weather to the Northern Plains and parts of the Midwest. Rain was also forecast for parts of Florida.

Clear skies and high temperatures were expected in the West and Southwest. Cool Pacific air was expected to produce fog and lower temperatures along the West Coast.

Temperatures were expected to drop into the 40s and 50s across the interior, while coastal temperature were likely to hover in the 60s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Yellowstone Lake, Wyo., to a high of 118 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
