[May 24, 2008]  (AP)  Very unsettled weather was expected in the western half of the country on Saturday, from rain and high elevation snow in California to heavy rain and thunderstorms in the western Plains.

There was a slight risk of severe weather from strong thunderstorms in the northern Plains.

Meanwhile, scattered showers and thunderstorms were likely in the Florida peninsula and along the Southeast Coast.

Mainly dry conditions were expected from Wisconsin through New England.

Temperatures were expected to be in the 80s, 90s and some 100s in the Southeast and Southern Plains; 60s and 70s in the Northeast and Northwest; and mostly 60s and 70s in the Southwest as well.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Friday ranged from a low of 22 degrees at Eureka, Nev., to a high of 107 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
