[May 27, 2008]  (AP)  More thunderstorms were forecast to rumble across the Plains on Tuesday, but the widespread severe weather that made for a deadly Memorial Day weekend was unlikely to continue.

The strongest storms were expected across the southeastern Plains and the lower Mississippi Valley. Hail, gusty winds and tornadoes were possible across the region.

Clouds and wet weather were forecast for the East Coast. Rain was expected to move into the Carolinas and Virginias before later reaching eastern Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and New England. Damaging wind gusts and hail were possible.

Monsoon-like thunderstorms and showers were expected to continue across the Interior West because of low pressure off the West Coast. Cloudy conditions were forecast for California, the Northwest and the Great Basin, with heavy rain anticipated across Idaho, the Northwest and Nevada. Flash flooding was possible in some of the desert areas of the Great Basin.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Berthoud Pass, Colo., to a high of 101 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
