[November 06, 2008]  WASHINGTON (AP) -- House Republican leader John Boehner says he will seek his colleagues' support to continue in that post.

The Ohio lawmaker says in a letter to fellow GOP lawmakers that he's deeply disappointed by the outcome of Tuesday's election. He says he's committed to returning Republicans to the majority and is asking to be re-elected as the party leader.

The 10-term lawmaker was chosen in January 2006 to lead House Republicans. No Republican has announced a challenge to Boehner. Elections for party leadership posts will take place this month.

One member of the GOP leadership team, Rep. Adam Putnam of Florida, has said he will step down as GOP conference chairman.
