It's time to get the leaves off the streets, lawns and sidewalks.

Reminder: The street department in Lincoln started the city's leaf pickup program on Nov. 3.

The leaves must be put in biodegradable paper bags. No brush. City crews will leave any brush at the curb, and the resident will be responsible for the cleanup. The bags must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on the date listed for each ward. Once the street department crews go down each street in each ward, they will not return until the next scheduled pickup date.

The following dates for each ward are subject to change due to weather and timing of leaves dropping or not.

  • Ward 1 -- Nov. 3, 14, 26
  • Ward 2 -- Nov. 5, 17, Dec. 1
  • Ward 3 -- Nov. 7, 19, Dec. 3
  • Ward 4 -- Nov. 10, 21, Dec. 5
  • Ward 5 -- Nov. 12, 24, Dec. 8

Beginning Oct. 30 through Dec. 2, the city landfill will be open from 8 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday for dumping landscape waste. This service is free of charge to Lincoln residents. At the same location, the city has free mulch, finer than what was available in the past. The landfill is located at Broadwell Drive and Old 66, north of the Salt Creek bridge.

After Dec. 2, the landfill hours will be on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8 a.m.-3:50 p.m.
