[November 15, 2008]  Main Street Lincoln is a recipient of one of the awards presented at the Illinois Main Street Conference in Decatur on Thursday, November 13, 2008.

CivicThe Main Street Programs follow the designated Four Point approach for enhancement, preservation and revitalization of the downtown areas in cities throughout the United States. Those four points include Organization, Promotion, Design and Economic Restructuring. Economic Restructuring includes the store fronts of the buildings in the downtowns of Illinois.

Lincoln’s Courthouse Square Historic District is an exceptional and distinctive centerfold for any community and window displays become an exciting part of that entire scene. The glass fronts and window displays of the buildings in our Historic Registry district are all to be commended for their style, class and taste.

With the Bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s 200th Birthday, Serendipity Stitches and Custom Framing exemplified the mood of the community with their window displays. Wanda Lee Rohlfs, Executive Director, of Main Street Lincoln, submitted the nomination in September for the award that was received yesterday.

From special memories and historic occasions to current events, the details unfold to become a storybook tale through the design efforts of Brenda Moore who is the creator and engineer behind the window displays.

The quote goes, “ A picture is worth a thousand words,” and these displays are worth “a thousand visits.” If you have not stopped by to see the window displays, it is a must when you are downtown.
