Heavy rainfall was to move through the Southeast, reach the Mid-Atlantic in the early to mid-morning hours of the day and New England close to noon. There was a chance that thunderstorms could develop from the Carolinas up through to southeastern Pennsylvania during the day.
To the west, snow showers were expected across the Upper Midwest on Saturday, although no significant accumulation was expected. Western Indiana and Kentucky was to see a mix of rain and snow, and the precipitation was to transition into rain going into the Ohio Valley.
Gusty winds and a transition from cloudy to mostly clear conditions were expected across the Northern and Central Plains, while mostly clear skies was to dominate the Southern Plains throughout the day. Cold air was to settle into the Northern and Central Plains, with temperatures only reaching the 30s and 40s.
In the Northwest, some rain was expected in the Seattle area, while clouds were forecast over northern Montana. The West was to otherwise see clear and dry conditions. Dry weather and gusty winds were to continue to fuel wildfires throughout the day in southern California.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Friday ranged from a low of 3 degrees at Berthoud Pass., Colo., to a high of 91 degrees at Thermal, Calif.
