Rainfall totals near a quarter of an inch were predicted in the southern and central Rockies, and less than 6 inches of snow was likely in higher elevations.
In the East, light snow was forecast along the eastern shores of the Great Lakes. Wet weather, scattered thunderstorms and seasonably cool temperatures were expected in the Southeast and along the Gulf Coast. Highs in the Tennessee Valley were predicted to reach only into the mid-50s.
Dry weather and seasonable temperatures were forecast for much of the West, except for the Northwest, where scattered showers were likely. Snow was expected in higher elevations.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Thursday ranged from a low of 2 degrees at Lake Yellowstone, Wyo., to a high of 89 degrees at Alice, Texas.
