 Lincoln Church of the Nazarene will join in the centennial celebration of
their denomination with a day full of special events on Oct. 5. At
9:45 am there will be a special lesson highlighting the history of
world missions in the denomination. During the worship hour at 11 am
the church will unite with every Nazarene congregation across all 24
times zones by sharing communion, reading the same scripture and
hearing the same message preached. Included in the service will be
highlights of denominational history as well as local church history
as they will honor several special families whose faithfulness and
commitment have made their existence possible today. Following the
worship hour will be an old-fashioned potluck dinner. Then,
finishing the day's activities on a high note, a concert featuring
Barry Wilson from Bourbonnais, Illinois will begin at 2:30 pm. Barry
is a Nazarene pastor turned recording artist with a great sound and
a great sense of humor. Lincoln Church of the Nazarene would like to
invite all their brothers and sisters in Christ to join with them

Hospitals Need Help Restocking Blood Supply
Your help is vital to protecting your community's blood supplies
for cancer patients, burn victims, accident patients and others
facing surgeries. Chances are that you or someone special to you
will need a blood transfusion during your lifetime. The blood supply
is totally dependent upon volunteers who will take a few minutes to
roll up their sleeve and donate blood. It only takes an hour to
donate blood, but the benefits last a lifetime for someone.
To help ensure an adequate blood supply for local hospitals, the
Lincoln Kiwanis is sponsoring a blood drive at the Lincoln Masonic
Center located at 2022 North Kickapoo Street in Lincoln on Monday,
October 6, 2008. The hours of the blood drive are 12:00pm - 6:00pm.

Lincoln resident an author
Hollie Groce, who was born and raised in Lincoln Il.
will be reading her children's book "Mama Groce's Bedtime Story
Book" to the 2nd grade elementary class of Forest Hills in Florence
Alabama on Oct 3rd at 1:30pm. Local mounted police heard of this and
are planning to bring their horses to the school for the children;
how awesome is that? Hollie travels from time to time to elementary
schools and not only reads her book but also donates it. She has
been to Indiana, Ohio and now Alabama. She may even be heading back
to her hometown in the near future. For every book sold a donation
goes to a charity until May of 2009 and for every 10 books sold one
book will get donated to a school or daycare. Although Hollie deeply
misses her friends and family in Lincoln Illinois she enjoys meeting
new people and giving to the children.
You
can still walk the walk
As fall approaches and days become shorter many of
us move our workouts indoors. The Lincoln Park District offers a
year round discount to seniors to come out and use their Walking
Track. For just $1.00 per visit walk our courts for as long as you
want. When we get a further into fall there will be coffee and home
baked muffins while you visit. The park will have a nurse available
to check your blood pressure.

Sam Ministry having Cruise In
Everyone is welcome to come to the Burger King
parking lot on Woodlawn on Oct. 4 for a Cruise In and car show to
help stock the Holy Family Food Pantry.
Nonperishable food items will
be accepted for the entry fee. All food collected will be donated to
the Holy Family Food Pantry. Dash plaques will be awarded to the
first 50 entries. It starts at 5:30 and you can get more information
by calling Wayne Cox at 217-651-8087.
Rummage Sale
The LCHS Competitive Cheer Squad is having a rummage
sale at Logan Lanes, 1700 5th Street in Lincoln on Saturday Oct. 4.
The hours are from 5:00 to 7:30 pm.
