They say the local Nielsen Ratings went off the chart in Chicago
when the Bears played in the Super Bowl way back in 1985. Well, we
might be too small a community to pull really big national numbers,
but we will wager next Thursday, Oct. 9, most television sets in the
area will be tuned to the highly popular "Grey's Anatomy" show. The
reason is that is the night Lincoln's own Jennifer Sydney will be a
part of the show. The daughter of Dana and Anne Sydney, Jennifer has
a role in the show that could lead to further appearances. Make sure
you all watch and don't forget to send those e-mails to the
producers asking who that fine actress you just saw was and will she
be on further episodes. Yeah, maybe you should leave your address off
those communications. We at LDN believe someday, many of us will be
able to say of Jennifer, "I knew her when."
Band
Boosters Chicken Dinner
The Lincoln Railer Band Boosters will be having a drive-up
chicken dinner on Thursday, October 9, from 4-6 pm in the Lincoln
Community High School parking lot. Cost for the dinner is $8.00, and
includes a half chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, bread, and butter.
Tickets are available from band members or Mr. Swaar (band teacher)
732-4131, extension 232. There will be some tickets available at the
dinner, while supplies last. This is a perfect chance to bring home
chicken dinners so you don't have to cook and we can all watch
Jennifer plus help these great hard working kids who give it their
all for their school and the community.

This
month CROP WALK will be a no-walk CROP Walk
CROP WALKS have provided thousands of dollars around the world to
feed the hungry so this year all gifts will be directed to that
cause. Since 1947 Logan County has helped feed the world. CROP now
stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.
[to top of second column] |
Kathy Shepherd of our Logan County Community Action says the demand
for food is at least 50% more than it was a year ago and that
changes weekly. Therefore this year the CROP WALK will be a No WALK
CROP WALK. This means instead of covering kick-off costs, shirts,
prizes, and soliciting requests from businesses for donated items we
want to concentrate what the world needs– only money or cans of food
and staples.
Those families on Food Stamp programs still have to
buy their personal articles such as toothpaste, soap, toilet paper,
laundry soap and, if applicable, diapers. Any food item is
appreciated but especially requested are meal dishes, peanut butter,
macaroni/cheese, tuna, cereals and soups. CROP WALK donations are
welcome through November 1. Make checks payable to CWS/CROP and mail
to CROP WALK c/o Rosemary Apel, 1486 1800th Avenue,
Lincoln, IL 62656. Rosemary Apel is the CROP Treasurer. Nancy
Gehlbach contacts corporate & annual gift givers. For more

This
could be pretty fishy
We all know that a good fish tale can turn into a
whopper but the Illinois Fishing Department is offering $50 awards
for those who send in a fish pic with a fish caption. Illinois
fishermen have until October 31 to submit a fish photo and become
eligible to win one of the cash prizes. The random drawing is open
to Illinois residents at least 15 years of age. Now the fish in the
picture must also be a native Illinoisan caught in Illinois waters
although how you can document that is hard to understand. Missouri
catfish look remarkably like Illinois catfish except Missouri
catfish have a little bit of a southern drawl which won't show up in
a picture. Perhaps in Illinois fish have picture ID cards. We will
wager for the most part this is on the honor system so we recommend
you don't send in a picture of a Blue Marlin and say you caught it
in Salt Creek. Complete rules are posted on the ILFishing.com Prizes

Got a good piece of news, information or
something that we can all brag about? If you do, e-mail Mike and let
us tell everyone about it. Plus you can win cash. Every submission,
whether we use it or not, will get your name in the "Close Up" grab
bag. At the end of the month we will draw a name and someone will
get $25.00 just for dropping us an e-mail. If you wish, we will be
happy to donate your winnings to the organization of your choice.
