[October 06, 2008]  The following recalls were issued by various federal and state agencies during the week ending Oct. 4: 

TOASTERS SOLD BY WAL-MART 

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is recalling General Electric Toasters sold at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from September 2007 to July 2008. An electrical short circuit can occur between the heating element and the bread cage, posing a fire and electrical shock hazard. 

The recalled toasters have a chrome steel body, a black plastic base and controls with either two or four openings in the top. The GE logo is located on the front of the toasters just above the controls. Model numbers 169115 and 169116 are included in this recall. The model number is printed on the bottom of the toasters.

Consumers should return the toasters to any Wal-Mart for a full refund or replacement toaster.

IKEA CHESTS

IKEA Home Furnishings is recalling "KVIBY" Chests sold at IKEA stores nationwide from August 2007 to July 2008. The glass drawer knobs on the chest can break either during assembly or in use, posing a laceration hazard. 

The recalled KVIBY Chest is white with 4 drawers and 6 glass knobs. The recall includes chests with article number 201-080-90 and a date stamp of 0817 (first two digits indicate the year; the second two digits indicate the week) or earlier. The article number and date stamp are located on a label attached to the underside of the chest.

TOY BOATS

Buzz's Boatyard is recalling Toy Boats sold nationwide from April 2007 to November 2007. The paint on the recalled toy boats contains an excess level of lead. 

This recall involves two models of tin Pop Pop toy boats. Models included in the recall are the 13-inch "Titanic" and the "Hut" Pop Pop boats.

POTTERY BARN HAMMOCK STANDS 

Pottery Barn is recalling Wooden Hammock Stands sold by Pottery Barn from March 2003 to July 2008. When used outdoors, the wood in the hammock stand can deteriorate over time and break, posing a risk of falls and lacerations. 

The wooden hammock stands measure about 154 ½ inches long by 53 ½ inches in height by 53 inches in width. There are two black metal brackets on the base and on the arms of the hammock stand. All Pottery Barn two pole wooden hammock stands sold from 2003 through 2008 are included in this recall.

YOUTH ATVS 

BRP U.S. Inc. is recalling Model Year 2008-2009 Can-Am® Youth ATVs sold nationwide from August 2007 to September 2008. If the rider is ejected and the cord strap is pulled, the shutoff switch can fail to disable the engine. The ATV can operate uncontrolled, until the engine returns to idle, and cause a collision with bystanders, vehicles or other objects. This poses a serious risk of injury. 

The recall involves Model Year 2008-2009 Can-Am® DS 90 X ATVs. The model name can be located on the side panels. The ATV is black with yellow and orange trim.

BOILERS 

Viessmann U.S. is recalling Vitodens 200 Boilers sold nationwide from January 2002 to December 2007. The boiler can leak gas, posing a fire hazard. 

The recall involves the Vitodens 200 boiler. The gas-fired boilers are white, wall-mounted and have "Viessmann" and "Vitodens 200" printed on the exterior in silver letters. A list of the model and serial numbers can be found at www.recalls.org

Consumers should contact their certified heating contractor or Viessmann at (888) 414-9157 for a free replacement of the boiler’s O-ring or visit www.viessmann-us.com. More info at www.recalls.org

LAWN DART GAMES

John Jaques & Son Ltd. is recalling Lawn Dart Games sold nationwide from March 2006 to July 2008. The darts in the games pose a puncture hazard to young children. 

The recalled lawn dart game includes four projectiles, each consisting of a 14 3/4" bamboo shaft, four fins, and a wooden tip.
