'Dancing with the Stars' contestant injured

[October 07, 2008]  LOS ANGELES (AP) -- "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Misty May-Treanor is hurt. But will she be out of the competition? The Olympic gold medalist volleyball player, who scored a 21 out of 30 with professional partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy for their paso doble routine last week, suffered an unspecified injury Friday.

A spokeswoman for the popular ABC dancing competition said the status of May-Treanor's condition -- and whether she will continue to dance -- would be addressed on Monday's live performance show.

The show's producers said in a statement released Saturday: "Despite previous reports, she did not break her ankle. She is resting comfortably at home. Doctors will re-evaluate her condition on Monday and determine the outcome of her participation on the show." It's not the first injury sustained by a competitor this season. Comedian Jeffrey Ross, who was eliminated the first week, suffered a scratched cornea after his partner Edyta Sliwinska accidentally poked him. Professional dancer Karina Smirnoff, who's partnered with chef Rocco DiSpirito, also sprained her ankle the first week.
