[October 13, 2008]  The following recalls were issued by various federal and state agencies during the week ending Oct. 11: 

GAME CHAIRS 

Brunswick Bowling & Billiards Corp. is recalling "Colonial" Folding Game Chairs sold nationwide from March 2007 to March 2008. The retaining washers on the legs can loosen, causing the chair to become unstable. This poses a fall hazard. 

This recall involves the "Colonial" model, folding wooden chairs for use with game tables. They were sold in sets of two. The chairs have a black seat cushion and either a cherry or chestnut finish. 

Consumers should contact the dealer where the chairs were purchased to schedule a free repair.

CHILDREN'S ITEMS 

Tween Brands Inc, is recalling Children's Ball and Heart Necklaces, Portable CD and MP3 Players sold nationwide from May 2007 to August 2008. Surface coatings on these products could contain excessive levels of lead. 

This recall involves a Ball and Heart Necklace with pink beads of varying sizes and a pink heart located in the center; a Portable CD Player with flowers and dots available in blue and pink; a pink MP3 Player with purple, green, blue, yellow, and red hearts; and a light blue MP3 Player with a picture of a monkey's face on the front.

Consumers should return the items to any Limited Too or Justice store for a full refund and a coupon for a 15% discount off a future purchase.

GIRLS' SANDALS 

Rack Room Shoes Inc. is recalling Girls' Sandals sold at Rack Room Shoes stores nationwide from February 2008 to June 2008. The ornamental flowers on the sandals can detach, posing a choking hazard. 

The recalled girls' sandals are leather with attached leather flowers and were sold under the Kids Feet name. The sandals are white or white with pink soles. The sandals were sold in girls' sizes 5 through 12. 

Consumers should return the sandals to the store where purchased for a refund or store credit.

RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES 

Coby Electronics Corp. is recalling Rechargeable Batteries sold with portable DVD/CD/MP3 players sold nationwide from May 2007 to July 2008. The rechargeable batteries can overheat, posing a fire hazard. 

This recall involves batteries sold with the TF-DVD 1020 portable DVD/CD/MP3 players. The product looks like a small laptop computer and has a 10" swivel TV screen. "COBY" is written on the front cover and under the screen. "TF-DVD 1020" can be found on the bottom of the unit. A complete list of the serial numbers can be found at www.recalls.org

PLAYSET GLIDERS 

Backyard Play Systems LLC is recalling Heartland/ Yardline/ Backyard Play Systems Outdoor Playset Gliders sold nationwide from February 2008 to July 2008. Some of the gliders were shipped with assembly instructions that did not inform consumers to tighten all lock nuts during assembly, including those attached by the manufacturer. As a result, some lock nuts were not fully fastened during assembly which could cause the glider to detach, posing a fall hazard. 

This recall involves outdoor play set gliders designed to hang from home play equipment. The green plastic gliders were sold as an accessory to home play equipment marketed under the brand names Heartland Play Systems, Yardline Play Systems and Backyard Play Systems. 

Consumers should contact Backyard Play Systems at (866) 890-2211 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday for written instructions indicating the location of all lock nuts that must be securely fastened or visit BackyardBuildings.com.  More info at www.recalls.org.

GAS VENT DAMPERS

Effikal LLC is recalling Automatic Gas Vent Dampers sold nationwide from August 2007 to July 2008. The automatic gas vent damper could fail, and if the blocked vent switch does not activate, the vent could leak carbon monoxide (CO). This poses a risk of CO poisoning. 

The recall involves Effikal RVGP-PC Gas Vent Damper size 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 which are installed with gas boiler systems. The vent damper date code is located on a sticker under the motor assembly cap on the plastic base. Serial numbers are located on a label on the side of the damper's cap. All sizes and models of the RVGP-PC have the same motor assembly with black Effikal caps and black plastic bases. A complete list of the boiler systems can be found at www.recalls.org

Consumers should contact their installer to confirm they have a recalled vent damper and to receive a free vent damper replacement.

NERF BLASTERS 

Hasbro Inc. is recalling Nerf™ N-Strike Recon Blasters sold nationwide from November 2007 to August 2008. The blaster's plunger can pull the user's skin during firing of the toy blaster resulting in injury to the face, neck, and/or chest. 

This recall involves the Nerf N-Strike Recon CS-6 Blasters for children age 6 and up. The word "NERF" in black lettering is on both sides of the blaster and the word "ARMED" is indented on the orange plunger. "RECON CS-6" is on the gray cocking mechanism. There are five interchangeable parts including the shoulder stock, the flip-up sight, barrel extension, quick re-load clip and dual-mode light beam. Model number 63552 and UPC codes 653569272021 and 653569311218 can be found on the packaging. Only blasters with an exposed orange plunger are included in this recall.
