[October 15, 2008] (AP) Showers and thunderstorms were forecast across the South, the Great Plains and the Great Lakes on Wednesday, while the Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast were expected to be unseasonably warm. Snow showers were possible in the Intermountain West and northern Rockies.

Cooler air was likely to filter into the Plains, bringing temperatures down to the 50s and 60s. They were expected to climb into the 80s in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.

By Thursday, light to moderate rain was expected to fall across the Pacific Northwest as a storm system approaches.

Another beautiful fall day was forecast for much of California and the Southwest on Wednesday, except for Northern California, which was expected to remain cloudy and cool. Hot, dry weather was likely in Southern California, which may cause more fire weather near Los Angeles.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Tuesday ranged from a low of 10 degrees at Fort Valley, Ariz., to a high of 93 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
