[October 24, 2008]  SPRINGFIELD -- Visitors from around the globe have trekked to Springfield the past three years to see the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. During the month of November, the museum is making it easier for the folks next door to visit.

Adult residents of Sangamon, Logan, Menard, Morgan and Christian counties may visit the presidential museum for half-price during November during the museum's "Community Days" event. After presenting a valid ID showing their place of residence, adults from these counties will pay just $5 each during the month to visit the nation's most popular presidential museum. Admission prices for residents of other areas will remain the same: $10 for adults; $7 for students, military personnel and senior citizens; and $4 for children under 15.

"Community Days offers our neighbors another reason to experience this treasure in their own backyards, whether they are first-time or repeat visitors," said Rick Beard, executive director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. "It is also an incentive to bring relatives and friends who are visiting for the holidays, or for radio stations or community organizations to organize a one-day fan tour."

The presidential museum will be open every day during November except Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27. The "Packaging Presidents" exhibit of presidential campaign material from the mid-1800s through the present has been extended through Nov. 30, allowing Community Days guests to enjoy this one-of-a-kind exhibition. Special Community Days admission prices will be offered to other central Illinois counties during December and throughout 2009.
