[October 27, 2008]  (AP)  Cold temperatures were expected to persist throughout the Great Lakes and Northeast regions on Monday. Lake-effect showers and possible thunderstorms were predicted for throughout the day. The system was to advance over the Northeast by Monday evening.

The West was to see mostly sunny and dry conditions. A ridge of high pressure was to remain anchored over the region, providing warm temperatures for the Southwest. Warm, dry and gusty conditions were to trigger fire weather conditions over areas of Southern California.

The Plains were to begin seeing warmer conditions. Winds from the south were to push warm air into the regions.

Meanwhile, the Southeast was to see warm gusty weather as a cold fronts dips across. A dry air mass was to push through the region behind the frontal system, triggering fire weather conditions over portions of the Southeast.

Temperatures were to be in the 30s and 40s in the Great Lakes, 40s and 50s in the Northeast, 50s to 70s in the Southeast, and 70s to 90s in the Southwest.
