Dollar higher, gold falls in morning trading

[October 31, 2008]  LONDON (AP) -- The U.S. dollar was mostly higher against other major currencies in European trading Friday morning. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.2762, down from $1.2967 late Thursday in New York.

InsuranceOther dollar rates:

  • 97.576 Japanese yen, down from 98.48

  • 1.1511 Swiss francs, up from 1.1376

  • 1.2167 Canadian dollars, up from 1.2133

The British pound was quoted at $1.6241, down from $1.6444.

Gold traded in London at $728.50 per troy ounce, down from $755.25 late Thursday.
