Yount, who hails from
Missouri, got a great log and coasted to a first-place time of 5
minutes, 11 seconds. Second place went to 70-year-old Oliver
Friedlein of Illinois with a time of 6:33. Third place went to Jason
Hill of Missouri with a time of 10:45, and fourth place went to Roy
Usery of Missouri with 12:22. A total of 13 splitters from
Illinois, Missouri and Kentucky competed for cash prizes. First
place received $1,000 (sponsors: Graue Chevrolet and Xamis Ford);
second place won $500 (sponsor: Lincoln College), third place won
$250 (sponsor: Lincoln IGA), and fourth place took in $100 (sponsor:
Dr. Dennis Carroll).
Contestants had to split a log into eight even rails in the
fastest amount of time.
