| You want more local
stories, you want more local sports, and you also want more sports,
period. And although we keep adding high-resolution photos that
usually can be enlarged with just a click of your mouse, you still
want more pictures. It also became apparent that many of you are depending on us to
give you an overview of what is happening in the state, the country
and the world as well. And so we shall. Beginning Oct. 1, although you might notice we have already
started, the Lincoln Daily News will expand our information base
again. As an example, although don't hold us to this high standard
every day, the LDN posted 74 news stories on Thursday, Sept. 25. We will greatly expand the sports page, especially on days after
a busy sports day, and we welcome your help in bringing more local
sports, as well as news, to our attention.
We intend to greatly expand the Spiritual Life section to give
you more information, stories and, in some cases, testimony about
the positive effects our faiths have on us and this community. Currently we have been posting on average 40 to 50 news stories
each day. Plus, we add dozens and dozens of bits of local
information. We also archive relevant information for weeks to allow
maximum exposure for your great stories and causes. We intend to
expand this coverage by an additional 20 percent. Although we are an AP affiliate, we don't have any set news
packages that we subscribe to. What we do, in effect, is look at all
the stories out there and see if a story has relevance or interest
locally. If it does, we grab the story. If it doesn't, we look for
something that does. That takes time, but thanks to all of you, we
now have that time and manpower available. On any given day there are over 300 pages of pertinent news and
informational items at the click of your mouse, and that is just on
a daily basis. The LDN is archived all the way back to 2000, and it
is at your fingertips without paying for the service.

Of course, we pride ourselves on always making sure local
organizations, events or the people of this community get their word
out, and we will continue to expand these "homegrown" stories as we
move along. We always have room for your good news. But you have told us you want more, so make sure your mouse is
ready to handle the activity, because we can now deliver. We are all dedicated to making the LDN your definitive and
primary source to find out what is happening in this community and
this world. It's what you asked for. It's what you want. It's what we thus
shall do. Readership is up 33 percent this year, and advertising has hit an
all-time yearly high with three months left in the year. It is
because of our great sponsors that we can again expand our
publication, and we cannot thank them enough for their trust in us
to deliver the news you all are looking for.
We never ask for thanks for posting your important information.
Rather we would like you to thank all the great area businesses and
individuals who, through their support, are making our continued
expansion possible. It's actually quite simple. The Lincoln Daily News isn't the
"other" newspaper anymore. Thanks to all of you. [LDN] |
