Together for Lincoln continues to grow

For the past six months, leaders from nearly a
dozen Lincoln churches have been working together to organize a
massive community service project day that is now simply known as
Together for Lincoln.
As of a month ago, the projects committee was preparing to meet the
needs of just under 40 projects in the community, which by all
standards was a very respectable figure. However, in the past month
the number of project applications for the Sept. 28 service day has
more than doubled to nearly 100 projects.

Fortunately for the Together for Lincoln leadership team, local
church members have also responded with a desire to serve. According
to representatives of the project coordination team, the numbers of
volunteers have also swelled from around 250 a few months ago to
over 750 current volunteers, who come from the following Lincoln
churches: Holy Family Catholic Church, Jefferson Street Christian
Church, Lincoln Bible Church, Lincoln Christian Church, Lincoln
Church of the Nazarene, Lincoln First Presbyterian Church, Lincoln
Southern Baptist Church, Neighbors to Nations Community Church, St.
John United Church of Christ, Trinity Episcopal Church and the
United Methodist Church.
People from the community who wish to volunteer for Together for
Lincoln are encouraged to come to Latham Park between 10 a.m. and
noon on Sept. 28, and a project coordinator will assign a project
for them to complete.

The Together for Lincoln projects team is also encouraging
individuals and families in the community who are not signed up for
projects to simply find a neighbor who may need help or visit an
elderly person who is homebound or in a local nursing home.
The entire community is also invited to come to the Together for
Lincoln community worship service, which will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday
at the Lincoln Christian College and Seminary Chapel, 100 Campus
View Drive.
Individuals desiring to make donations to Together for Lincoln
may also do so at any State Bank of Lincoln location.
