[September 26, 2008]  (AP)  Intense winds, heavy rainfall and possibly severe thunderstorms were expected over areas of the Mid-Atlantic on Friday. Showers and thunderstorms were also expected in parts of the Northeast. Coastal flooding with high surf and dangerous rip currents were expected to persist along areas of the East Coast.

RestaurantThe Southeast was to remain mostly dry with fair conditions. There was a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in southern Florida.

Better weather was expected to the west. The Great Lakes was to see mostly sunny skies with mild temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Showers and possible thunderstorms were possible, however, in the Northern Plains and areas of the Upper Mississippi Valley.

The Pacific Northwest was to see light rain showers in the morning, and then temperatures were to warm.

To the south, cooler temperatures and areas of coastal fog were expected in Southern California.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Thursday ranged from 25 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to 110 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
