[September 29, 2008]  (AP)  The Midwest and Florida were being battered by separate rain systems early Monday, while high pressure was keeping the Plains and Northwest clear.

An area of low pressure will bring stormy weather to Florida as it treks eastward across the state. Southern Florida will see heavy showers and thunderstorms as this system progresses. Areas of Florida will remain under flood watches throughout the day.

The Midwest will also see active weather on Monday. A cold front extending from the upper Great Lakes through the mid-Mississippi Valley will trigger light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms over these areas.

To the west, moisture from the south will move into areas of the Southwest and Central Great Basin. This moisture will trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms over the mountain and high desert regions.

The West Coast will see enhanced fog along the coast as a trough of low pressure moves closer to the California shoreline. Slightly cooler temperatures are expected for the Coast.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Sunday ranged from a low of 22 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 111 degrees at Thermal, Calif.
