Ill. Gov. Quinn calls indictment charges 'serious'

[April 03, 2009]  CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn says it's a sad day, calling the charges in the federal indictment against former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and five others "very serious."

Quinn also says that those indicted Thursday are entitled to their day in court. Quinn made his remarks at a news conference at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

Blagojevich, his brother and two former aides were indicted on federal corruption charges. The former governor has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

Quinn says the people of Illinois are entitled to honest government that works for them all the time.

He says he was not aware of alleged criminal actions and if he had been, he would have reported them.
