Genealogical and Historical Society, Head Start, health fair, breast
cancer support group and YMCA in Close Up

Congratulations
to the Logan County Genealogical and Historical Society. They
are the winners of the March Close Up grab bag check. A check for
$25.00 will be sent to them just for telling us their good news.

The
Lincoln Area Music Society will be holding their annual spring
concert at the Lincoln Community High School. April 4th it will be
held at 7 pm, and April 5th it will be held at 2 pm. There is no
admission, but donations will be accepted.
The
Community Action Head Start Program will be hosting a Head Start
Registration Day in Lincoln on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 10am to
2pm at 2018 North Kickapoo, Lincoln. Children who will be 3 by
September 1st, 2009 are eligible for the upcoming school year.
The Head Start Program is a preschool program that provides
comprehensive services, nutritious meals and snacks, screenings and
dual enrollment with the school district for children between the
ages of 3 and 5. Head Start is offered to eligible families at no
cost. Families interested in enrolling their child in the Head Start
Program are encouraged to register at the Head Start Registration
Day - space is limited. For consideration, families should bring
proof of 2008 income, a copy of the child’s birth certificate or
medical card and proof of any child support, Social Security, TANF
and cash assistance the family receives.
"Head Start is a high quality preschool program that not only
serves the child but the entire family. We encourage interested
families to attend the registration date in order to obtain a spot
for their child in the upcoming school year," said Alison Sherren,
Family/Community Services Manager.
Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois serves the low
income and senior populations of central Illinois through a variety
of programs. The Community Action Head Start program has classrooms
throughout six counties in Central Illinois including DeWitt,
Fulton, Logan, Mason, Menard and Piatt. For more information call

Reminder:
The 24th annual Community Health Fair will be on Saturday
from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lincoln Park District's Sports Center.
Admission is free and everyone is invited to attend. This year's
fair will focus on health, fitness and recycling. "Go Green!"
More than 60 organizations will have displays or offer health
screenings. Guests at the fair will learn new and innovative
approaches to wellness. Health screenings are always popular at the
fair and many will be offered: blood pressure, blood sugar/diabetes,
body mass index, bone density, child development, cholesterol,
hemoglobin, oral cancer, pH testing and pulse oximetry. All
screenings except the hemoglobin ($1) and cholesterol ($5) will be
free of charge.

Do you have recyclable items in your home? Besides the health
screenings and health exhibits, the Community Health Fair will
provide a chance for you and your family to bring in recyclable
items! Nine different organizations will attend the health fair to
collect various recyclables. The items that will be accepted are as
follows: printer cartridges, cell phones, eyeglasses, pop tabs,
plastic bags, CFL light bulbs (swirly style), medications and
mercury products. Container glass will be collected at Lincoln
Community High School.
Logan
County Breast Cancer Support meetings are held at the First
United Methodist Church every first Tuesday of each month. This
month’s meeting will be at 7-8:30 pm on Tuesday, April 7.
YMCA
Summer Day Camp is the place to be for your summer of fun. They
have lots of fun and activities planned, along with daily swimming
and field trip fun. The Y offers camp for kindergarten through third
grade, fourth to sixth grade and seventh to ninth grade. Day camp
will meet at the Y Activity Center beginning on June 4 and runs from
6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early registration is April 8-May 6 at a
discounted rate. Weekly and daily camp fees increase starting May 7.
