[April 07, 2009]  (AP)  Storms were brewing in the East and West on Tuesday.

In the East, mixed precipitation was forecast for the Northeast, with periods of heavy rainfall forecast throughout the day. The rain showers were later to change into snow. Temperatures were to be below average and the southern half of the central U.S. was to remain under a freeze warning throughout the morning.

In the West, stormy weather was forecast for California. Rain and high-elevation snow with isolated thunderstorms were predicted during the morning and afternoon, intensifying in the evening. Pockets of hail and isolated thunderstorms along the central California coast were possible.

Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest was expected to remain under mild and predominantly dry conditions.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of minus 9 degrees at Yellowstone, Wyo., to a high of 93 degrees at West Palm Beach, Fla.
