[April 08, 2009]  (AP)  Both coasts were in for wet weather on Wednesday.

Rain with scattered thunderstorms and high-elevation snow was to continue over California and Oregon Wednesday morning, slowly diminishing in the afternoon. The precipitation was to extend northeastward across the Great Basin as well as the Rockies during the day. The snow and rain showers were expected to remain on the light side, but a few thunderstorms were possible as well.

To the East, scattered showers were expected over portions of northern New England, upstate New York and Pennsylvania. In addition, areas of rain and high-elevation snow showers were possible over parts of the southern Appalachians and southern Mid-Atlantic.

Apart from these two systems, another Pacific storm system was expected to approach the West Coast beginning Wednesday evening and then sag southeast, bringing another shot of cold and unsettled weather across the West Coast. Rain and mountain snow were to develop once again over the Pacific Northwest Wednesday night, spreading across northern California by Thursday morning.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of minus 4 degrees at Yellowstone, Wyo., to a high of 93 degrees at Gila Bend, Ariz.
