[April 22, 2009]  (AP)  The Northeastern U.S. was expected to see scattered rain throughout Wednesday.

Areas from the lower Great Lakes into eastern Canada were to get less than a half-inch, while 1 to 2 inches was possible in parts of Maine. The slow-moving system was to continue causing flooding problems in the Northeast and Midwest.

Behind the storm system, increasing temperatures were forecast with highs in the 60s for the Upper Midwest and reaching into the 80s and 90s in the Gulf states and southern Plains. Highs around 70 with breezy conditions were expected for the northern Plains.

The West Coast was to start seeing temperatures decrease to normal, though dry conditions were to continue with highs in the 70s over Oregon and Washington. Northern California was to see highs in the 80s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 16 degrees at Mount Washington, N.H., to a high of 105 degrees at Thermal, Calif.
