[March 19, 2010]  (AP)  A strong spring storm system was expected to move out of the Rockies and cross the Plains Wednesday and Thursday.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms were expected across the Plains and Mississippi Valley, with some storms becoming severe with hail and damaging winds. Heavy downpours were possible, aggravating flood conditions. Temperatures across much of the region were to climb about 15 to 20 degrees.

In the East, showers and thunderstorms were expected to continue through the Ohio and Tennessee valleys. A cold front was to drop temperatures in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic to the 50s and 60s.

In the West, snow was to continue in higher elevations, with rain on the coasts and valleys. California and the Southwest were to see slight warming.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 21 degrees at Kremmling, Colo., to a high of 95 degrees at McAllen, Texas.
