Accident on July 27 at 9:11 a.m.; Lincoln Parkway, 500 feet south
of Fifth Street
--Troy W. Johnson, 23-year-old male, Loami; 1996 Chevrolet
two-door conv.
--Milton T. Lewis, 66-year-old male, Lincoln; 1998 Plymouth
Expresso
Lewis said he had just turned north onto Lincoln Parkway from
Stringer Avenue. He was accelerating and was traveling at 30 mph in
the outside lane. Lewis said he was not slowing down or applying his
brakes.

 Johnson was also westbound on Lincoln Parkway and was coming up
behind Lewis. Johnson said he saw Lewis apply his brakes for no
apparent reason. Johnson said he tried to avoid Lewis by braking and
swerving to the left, but his brakes failed. Johnson was unable to
avoid Lewis and hit the rear of his vehicle. Johnson continued north
through the median, across the southbound traffic lanes and into the
ditch on the west side.
Johnson's brake pedal was examined by the reporting officer and
pressure was found. No skid marks from Johnson's vehicle were
observed on the roadway or in the grass.
Lewis was transported by a private vehicle to Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital.
