Lincoln Police Department reports for Monday, Aug. 3

Vinyard said he had a green light and entered the intersection to
head south on Kickapoo Street. He said he was in the intersection
when Valdes entered the intersection. Vinyard was unable to stop
before Valdes was in front of him.
A witness was in a vehicle facing west on Keokuk. The witness
said he was stopped in the left turn lane, waiting to go south on
Kickapoo. The witness said the light was red for the east and west
traffic and that Vinyard had a green light to go south on Kickapoo.
Valdes was taken in an ambulance by Logan County Paramedics to
St. John's Hospital in Springfield. The reporting officer spoke with
Valdes at the hospital. Valdes said he entered the intersection
trying to beat the red light and that he thought it was yellow when
he went into the intersection.
Valdes was cited for disobeying a traffic control signal and for
operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
