[August 11, 2009]  GRETNA, La. (AP) -- The jury in the second-degree murder trial of rapper Corey "C-Murder" Miller plans to continue deliberations.

Saying they were exhausted and wanted to rest and make a fresh start, the jury said they were unable to debate further Monday. The judge reluctantly let them call it quits after nine hours of deliberation and sent them to a hotel for the night.

Jurors are trying to decide whether Miller is guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Steve Thomas, but were having trouble reaching a consensus. At least 10 of the 12 jurors must agree on a verdict.

The 38-year-old Miller would face a mandatory life term if convicted. The jury could also find him guilty of manslaughter, which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years.
