[August 12, 2009]  LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The annual Perseid meteor shower is expected to put on a dazzling sky show.

Astronomers said up to 100 meteors per hour were expected to streak across the sky during the shower's peak.

In North America, the best time to watch was before dawn Wednesday.

The Perseid shower occurs every summer when the Earth's orbit crosses the path of debris thrown off by Comet Swift-Tuttle.
