[August 14, 2009]  DENVER (AP) -- Prosecutors are accusing a Denver woman of attempted first-degree murder for allegedly stealing a car and fleeing at speeds up to 50 mph -- even after the owner hopped on the car's hood in a bid to stop her.

Ryan Calles had stopped at a sandwich shop in Denver on Wednesday and left his keys inside. Authorities say that's when Kim Lucero got in the unlocked 1995 Nissan and sped away.

Even after Calles jumped onto the hood, Lucero didn't stop. Authorities say that several blocks later she turned sharply. Calles fell off, suffering critical injuries.

Lucere was arrested Wednesday along Interstate 25 in Wyoming. Her young daughter was with her during the incident and has been turned over to social workers.

Lucero, 26, is in custody in Wyoming. She faces other charges along with the attempted murder charge.
