[August 14, 2009]  The mayor said that this year the city will have a contest in conjunction with the Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival. The contest will be a drawing for two grand prizes, one first prize, two second prizes and four third prizes. The grand prizes will be a balloon ride at the festival, two admission wristbands, two art and balloon collector pins, and a festival T-shirt.

First prize will include $100 in "Art Bucks" to spend at the festival, two wristbands, two collector bins and a T-shirt.

Second prize is $50 in Art Bucks and everything else the same as the first prize.

The third prize will consist of wristbands, collector pins and T-shirt.

The drawing will be on Aug. 25 at 5:30 in City Hall. Winners need not be present at the drawing.

Entry boxes will be placed at City Hall, the Lincoln Public Library Annex and the Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce office.

The contest is not open to city employees, elected officials, appointed officials or their families.

The Lincoln/Logan Chamber of Commerce will be holding a "town hall" meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the KC's Hall, located on Limit Street in Lincoln. They will have numerous speakers addressing the corrections layoffs at Lincoln Correctional Center and Logan Correctional Center.

LDN invites the entire community to come to this meeting. Only by the strength of our numbers can we help change the governor's mind on the drastic cuts that will affect our friends, our neighbors and our community. If there are any questions or comments, please call or e-mail:

Well, the fair is over and we tried to give a solid representation in the food section of the fair, thanks to the coverage of our food editor, Deb Rohrer. Deb says she enjoyed meeting so many cooks and chefs at the fair and asks them all to join in the fun and to submit their recipes to our Grab Your Fork recipe section.

[to top of second column]

Grab Your Fork continues to keep getting bigger and better with your help and already has over 200 recipes on file for you to try and enjoy. But we want more. So join the fun and become a recipe submitter. And remember, every month we have drawings where you can choose from an array of great prizes.

On Saturday, Aug. 22, Logan Lanes will host a fundraiser to help the Josh Quisenberry/Katrina Johnson family, following the tragic loss of their newborn daughter. All proceeds will help defray the immense medical bills. There will be a hold 'em tourney at 6 p.m. and a nine-pin no-tap tourney at 7 p.m. A silent auction will begin at 6 p.m. Come show your compassion.

Got a good piece of news, information or something that we can all brag about? If you do, e-mail Mike and let us tell everyone about it. Plus you can win cash. Every submission, whether we use it or not, will get your name in the "Close Up" grab bag. At the end of the month, we will draw a name and someone will get $25 just for dropping us an e-mail. If you wish, we will be happy to donate your winnings to the organization of your choice.
