Holdup note helps nab alleged robber in Utah

[August 18, 2009]  MURRAY, Utah (AP) -- The detailed information on the back of the demand note in a Utah bank robbery made it pretty easy for authorities to arrest a suspect.

Charging documents from U.S. District Court allege that Todd Waller Markham visited a Washington Federal Savings bank in Murray last week and gave the teller a note demanding cash. The court papers say he was given some money and then left.

But the reverse side of the note listed information about Markham from a drug screening, including his name, Social Security number and birth date.

Authorities say they looked up the photo on Markham's driver's license, compared it to the surveillance video, and arrested him at his apartment.

Markham's court-appointed attorney, Vanessa Ramos, told The Associated Press on Monday that she has no comment.
