DeLay hopes to show fancy footwork on dance floor

[August 18, 2009]  WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former House Republican Whip Tom DeLay, called the "Hammer" for his arm-twisting talents, wants to show the world some fancy footwork.

Selected as a celebrity performer on ABC TV's "Dancing With The Stars," DeLay said there's nothing odd about a conservative kicking up his heels. He told ABC's "Good Morning America" Tuesday that "conservatives can have fun too. Conservatives can open their collar and put on their dancing shoes. ... I'm in it to win it."

DeLay doesn't yet know who his partner will be. He did say there would need to be some "negotiations" if someone wanted him to wear sequins or show the open-shirt look.
