[August 18, 2009]  NEW YORK (AP) -- AMC network says "Mad Men" logged a one-third boost in viewers for its season premiere Sunday, over last year's premiere of the much acclaimed drama.

The 10 p.m. Eastern airing of the season opener drew an audience of 2.8 million viewers, versus 2.1 million last year.

Altogether, Sunday's total of three airings of the episode had an audience of nearly 4 million viewers.

Now in its third season, "Mad Men" follows the complicated life of Don Draper, an ad agency executive in 1960s-era New York.

The series has 16 Emmy nominations this year, the most for any drama series, including for Jon Hamm, who stars as Draper.
