[December 01, 2009]  The Eaton Electrical Tournament is over and the LCHS Railers came out with a 4-1 record to start the season. Considering the competition, this was no small feat as Railer Nation gets ready to enjoy another benchmark Railer roundball season. Jeff Benjamin, the 96.3 FM voice of the Railers, is again doing a marvelous job of reporting on the games for LDN. Jeff will be at all the games and will give our readers great firsthand and insightful looks at the Railer season as it progresses. Plus, for all you Railer Nation junkies, the archives of every one of those game reports will be at your fingertips at the top of our Sports page. This will allow you to read back on any or all of the great games throughout the season. It looks like another great Railer season, and LDN will be there to tell you everything you want to know … and then some.

The Humane Society of Logan County will hold an ADOPT-A-THON on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 10 until 11 a.m. inside Big R, Heritage Plaza, Lincoln. There will be both dogs and cats for adoption. These wonderful animals are currently living in foster homes, have been spayed or neutered, have received necessary inoculations, and are socialized to be able to move right into your loving home. Visit www.hslclincoln.org or call 217-737-4042 for details.

Upcoming blood drives
in Logan County will be:

  • Monday, Dec. 7, from noon to 6 p.m. at Lincoln Masonic Center; sponsored by the Lincoln United Methodist Church

  • Thursday, Dec. 10, from noon to 4 p.m. at Hopedale Medical Complex

  • Tuesday, Dec. 29, from noon to 3 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital

The Lincoln Park District's Treats with Santa will be this Saturday, Dec. 5, 8:30 to 11 a.m. Join them for milk and cookies and enter their coloring contest while you wait your turn to tell the real Santa exactly what you want for Christmas.

A new look on the square for the Christmas parade. Have you noticed the new look downtown?

As you drive Broadway or Kickapoo Street in the Courthouse Square Historic District, you will notice some new Christmas decorations. After several years of debating what the new look would be, a discussion was held with Bill Bree, owner of Three Roses Floral. He said he could get Main Street Lincoln wreaths that would be a cost savings over what would be spent with companies outside of Lincoln. MSL is always happy to work with local downtown businesses.

Main Street Lincoln is pleased with the 4-foot wreaths, which are paired back-to-back, intertwined with lights and decorated with red bows. The fundraisers that were held allowed MSL to purchase only five sets of wreaths. Next year they will add to the sets and hopefully decorate all of downtown Lincoln in the near future.

The goal was to have them up by the annual city of Lincoln and Main Street Lincoln Christmas parade Thursday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. "A Super Heroes Christmas" will parade through the downtown streets. Hope you can come downtown and enjoy the parade and get into the Christmas spirit.

First Baptist Church is having a basement sale and bake sale with plenty of good items and a lot of good baked goods. The days are Friday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 5, from 8 a.m. to noon. All proceeds will go to help fund church activities.

Happy birthday to the Logan County Paramedic Association. Today marks their 10th year serving the needs of our community.
