[December 18, 2009]  MADRID (AP) -- A Spanish official says a nearly two-month forensic dig to find the remains of the poet Federico Garcia Lorca, who was executed at the start of the Spanish Civil War, has yielded nothing.

The announcement Friday means one of the 1936-39 war's greatest mysteries -- the whereabouts of Garcia Lorca's remains -- will remain unresolved.

Regional justice minister Begona Alvarez said the excavation on a hillside outside the southern city of Granada had produced no bones, clothes or evidence of gunfire.

Historians and researchers, including Garcia Lorca specialist Ian Gibson, had pushed for years for the area to be dug up.
