According to a witness, Figueroa was traveling west on Sixth Street into the intersection while Hopp was traveling south on South Madison into the intersection. The witness reported that Hopp was driving recklessly prior to entering the intersection. Hopp was pulling a flatbed trailer that was reported to be fishtailing on the snow-covered road. Both vehicles entered the intersection at approximately the same time and Figueroa struck the trailer pulled by Hopp, shoving it into the parked vehicle owned by Galvin.

This intersection is not controlled by a stop sign or signal.
