In the Southwest, several inches of snow were anticipated over higher elevations in the Four Corners, while the mountains in northern and eastern California were to see a few inches of snow. Snow showers were to move across Nevada, while the rest of California was expecting rain throughout the day. Heavy rain was to hit the Northern California coast in the evening, with the mountains getting up to a foot of snow.
In the Plains, clouds and snow showers were expected in the Northern and Central Plains in the afternoon. But it was to be partly to mostly clear in the Southern Plains and mostly clear in the Upper Midwest.
Further east, showers and thunderstorms were expected across the Southeast. There was a slight possibility a few of the storms could become severe.
In the Northeast, clouds and areas of rain or snow showers were expected in the Mid-Atlantic, while New England was to get gusty winds.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of minus 17 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a high of 93 degrees at Edinburg, Texas.
