[January 24, 2009]  (AP)  Wet weather and chilly temperatures were forecast for the East Coast on Saturday and rain and snow were expected across the West, with bitter cold predicted for some parts in between.

Friday's mild weather in the East was gone. A storm was expected to bring flurries and snow showers to New England and the Northeast. No major accumulation was likely, though some spots could get 1 or 2 inches of snow. Gusty winds were predicted in the Northeast for most of the day. Most of the precipitation was expected to end in the afternoon.

RestaurantCloudy, rainy skies were forecast over the Southeast and into southern Texas. The wet weather was predicted to stick around for most of the day.

Scattered flurries, light snow showers and howling winds were expected across the northern and central Plains. Temperatures were forecast to range from single digits to below zero in parts of the Dakotas and the upper Midwest.

Partly to cloudy skies were forecast over the West, where rain and snow were expected.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Friday ranged from a low of minus 26 degrees at Clayton Lake, Maine, to a high of 89 degrees at Llano, Texas.
