[January 31, 2009]  NORMAL -- Free financial aid workshops are scheduled at Heartland Community College on Feb. 21. Designed to assist students who will begin their college experience in 2009-10, the workshops will be offered at 10 and 11 a.m. in the Workforce Development Center, located on Heartland's main campus at 1500 W. Raab Road in Normal. No preregistration is required.

HardwareAt the workshop, college-bound students and their parents will complete the online 2009-10 Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Experienced financial aid officers will be on hand to provide one-on-one assistance to each family completing the FAFSA on the Web. Students and parents are encouraged to bring their completed 2008 federal income tax returns, if available, or all 2008 W-2 forms and verification of sources of untaxed income received during the 2008 calendar year.

The workshops are part of the College Awareness and Preparation project -- an initiative made possible by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, the Illinois Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and the Illinois Association for College Admissions Counseling, along with a cooperative effort between Heartland and Illinois State University
