City of Lincoln Alderwoman Joni Tibbs, who was also a member of the Heritage Days Committee, hands out American flags to all parade participants.

The participants dressed in orange T-shirts were involved in ScoutSweep 2009. Cub Scout Troops 105 and 111 were selected by the mayor to lead the parade.

The parade was not just for children, as several adults joined their kids, walking with them, and some even on bikes.

Even though kids may not mind parading in the rain, sometimes the adults just can't resist trying to protect them from the elements; it's just their nature.

Entering into the Rec Center parking lot, parade participants get a first peek at what may lay ahead during the water balloon fights with the Lincoln City Fire Department.

Kena Bere and her mother, Njari, smile happily as they participate in the parade. Njari, a native of Kenya and a teacher at Lincoln Christian College, is celebrating her first Independence Day as a United States citizen, having been sworn in on May 22.
