[July 08, 2009]  PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities said a homeless man claimed to be the devil and attacked another man outside a Port St. Lucie convenience store.

The victim told police that the 53-year-old man approached him early Monday morning and began speaking with him. After a few minutes, the man shouted, "I am the Devil and I am going to kill you."

A report said the suspect jammed his thumbs into the man's eyes, which made them bleed. The victim told police he hit the homeless man and ran home. Officers found the suspect nearby a short time later.

The suspect was charged with aggravated battery and was being held on $20,000 bail.
